RCMP Crest LogoThree people are in police custody after fleeing a traffic stop just west of Headingley on Thursday evening.

Manitoba RCMP pulled the vehicle over on the Trans-Canada Highway at around 6:30 p.m. before a high-speed chase ensued.

The westbound sedan with British Columbia plates evaded police for approximately 60 minutes before being stopped nearly 2 km north of Fannystelle, Manitoba.

A spike belt was deployed near Poplar Point, which flattened the tires of the vehicle before it could be stopped. The chase also sent a police cruiser into the ditch as it lost control while trying to keep up with the suspects.

The male driver and two female passengers are in police custody and charges are pending.

Headingley, Stonewall, Carman, Lundar and Portage la Prairie detachments assisted with the arrest.
