The Winnipeg Folk Festival has chosen two winning designs for their T-shirts this year.
Darryl McGarey and Kennedy Zifarelli submitted their designs for the adult and children’s shirts, respectively, after festival organizers put the call out in March.
“We were delighted with the community response to this contest,” said Winnipeg Folk Festival artistic associate Andrea Burgoyne. “We had an incredibly diverse and talented group of applicants and ultimately decided to select two winners.”
About the winners
Darryl McGarey is a Winnipeg-born artist who works by day as a full-time artist/designer for guitar strap giant Levy’s Leathers and painting pin-up inspired art at night under the name “Retro Ricky Rice.”
Kennedy Zifarelli is a young graphic designer who is passionate about what she does. She works with classmates, teachers and companies as the production manager for the Technical Vocational High School Graphic Arts program.
The winning designs will be on sale as official merchandise at the 41st annual Folk Fest, which runs from July 9-13 in Birds Hill Provincial Park. Early bird tickets are on sale until April 30.
