The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ rounded up 2,500 lbs. of litter on Tuesday with the help of business leaders, community members and local celebrities.

About 450 people came out for the Downtown BIZ’s ninth annual Earth Day Clean-up.

“What we saw was a powerful commitment from the downtown community to keep our city clean and green,” said Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown BIZ. “This event connects business people with our Metro Enviro-Team so they can see firsthand the important work they do, and how valuable it is to have a downtown that is spotless, clean, and inviting.”

Volunteers worked in two shifts at Thunderbird House and Millennium Library Park, where they picked up litter and helped the city’s downtown streets to look much cleaner during this gritty time of year.
