Officials are hoping ‘Tobans will continue to sign up for organ donation through the Province of Manitoba’s official organ and tissue donor website.
Signupforlife.ca turns two years old on Wednesday, but so far only 9,751 people have signed up.
“We all have the ability to save a life by signing up for an organ or tissue donation,” said Health Minister Erin Selby. “I’ve signed up and have encouraged my family, friends and colleagues to do the same.”
“When you think about it, more people take in a Jets game on a single night than have signed up to be organ and tissue donors,” added Dr. Faisal Siddiqui, an organ donation physician.
There are currently more than 200 people on the waitlist just for kidneys.
