Five Charged After Gun Fired Saturday Morning

Winnipeg Police CrestFive people are facing charges after the report of a gunshot in the area of Sherbrook Street and Ross Avenue early Saturday.

Winnipeg police responded at around 12:45 a.m. and witnessed a Dodge Caravan travelling at a high rate of speed. Police conducted a traffic stop near Isabel Street and Logan Avenue and nine people were taken into custody.

Police searched the vehicle and found a loaded. 303 calibre sawed-off rifle, .22 calibre sawed-off rifle, a machete and two cans of bear spray.

Police say the suspects had been involved in a physical altercation earlier in the evening with another group of people. In retaliation, a gunshot was fired in the area of Alexander Avenue and Sherbrook Street. No injuries were reported.

Chester Roulette, 18, Jordan Stephan Berens, 18, and Justin Garrett Berens, 25, all of Winnipeg, have been charged with numerous weapons related offences. They remain in custody.

Two other males, aged 16 and 17, were also arrested and remain at the Manitoba Youth Centre. Four other people were released without charge.
