A month-long enforcement campaign on distracted driving resulted in nearly 1,500 tickets being issued to Manitoba drivers.
Manitoba Public Insurance teamed up with six police agencies across the province on the dedicated enforcement project on electronics hand-held devices.
“Distracted driving is extremely dangerous driver behaviour,” said MaryAnn Kempe, vice-president of community and corporate relations for MPI. “The numbers clearly show that some drivers continue to break the law and place innocent motorists at risk.
This month’s enforcement campaign was a joint initiative between MPI and the RCMP, Winnipeg Police Service and Brandon Police Service, as well as police agencies in Winkler, Morden and Rivers.
