Virden Under Boil Water Advisory

April 30, 2014 9:09 AM | News

The town of Virden is under a boil water advisory after a major water main break in the community Tuesday night.

“The leak that caused the dramatic drop in water reserves and pressure has been located,” Mayor Jeff McConnell said on Facebook. “It will take time to have the reservoir and pressure build back up. It will also take time before the boil water notice will be removed.”

Residents are advised to boil water for at least one minute for drinking and ice making, preparing beverages (including baby formula), brushing their teeth and preparing food, including washing fruits and vegetables.

Virden’s four schools are closed today as a result until the break can be fixed.
