Renowned cellists from around the world are gathering in Winnipeg for the second annual International Cello Festival of Canada.
Agassiz Music Inc. and the Winnipeg Arts Council will host the event June 18-22.
During the festival, cello-philes will experience music by Beethoven and a new and fresh exploration of the celebrated Bach Solo Cello Suites by six cello masters. With beat-boxing cellist, cello magician, and late night heavy metal cello concert at the Gas Station Arts Centre, the festival will offer something for everyone.
Winnipeg favourites Yuri Hooker, Leanne Zacharias and Minna Rose Chung will join others as artistic director Paul Marleyn has assembled a line-up of international talent. Performers include Asia’s most famous cellist, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi from Japan, Christophe Coin from France, Alexander Rudin from Russia, as well as Colin Carr, Denise Djokic, and Yegor Dyachkov.
