
Thomas Steen
Winnipeg city Councillor Thomas Steen has voluntarily taken a leave from his duties after being charged with assault.
Steen was allegedly involved in an incident with a woman at a local restaurant on May 1, as first reported by Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press.
Steen, a former NHL player, represents the ward of Elmwood-East Kildonan and also serves on the Winnipeg Police Board. While police conduct their investigation, Steen has been relieved of his board duties.
Steen, 53, was first elected to civic politics in 2010.
He will make his first court appearance at a later date.
UPDATE: Thursday, May 29 — Steen has officially been charged with two counts of assault, as well as uttering threats.
