Students and staff from General Wolfe School are hitting the streets of Winnipeg’s West End today to pick up litter, collect recyclables and sweep sidewalks.
The 22nd annual sweep-up will focus on thoroughfares such as Ellice Avenue, Sargent Avenue, Balmoral Street to collect debris left behind from the winter.
“General Wolf students look forward to this each year and we make it fun for them. This school has been our main partner for 22 years,” said Gloria Cardwell-Hoeppner, executive director of the West End BIZ. “They really take ownership of the work and enjoy seeing the immediate visible difference their efforts make.”
Bags of litter and recyclables collected by the students will be consolidated at Saigon Park. At the end of the day, city staff will pick up the garbage bags for disposal and BIZ staff will ensure recyclables are processed.
