Winnipeg police Chief Devon Clunis will be the guest lecturer at a University of Winnipeg community forum on sex trafficking.
Clunis will speak at a class as part of the Global College course: Sex Trafficking: Global to Local Dimensions on Tuesday, May 13.
“The essence of trafficking is coercion to sell sex,” said Professor Marilou McPhedran. “But coercion takes many forms and when sexually exploited youth are involved, it is by definition trafficking — never ‘consensual prostitution.’ We’ve brought in an international expert on the ‘Nordic model’ from Sweden, Gunilla Ekberg, as the primary instructor for this course so our students and the public have the most accurate and up-to-date information available.”
Clunis’ public lecture begins at 6 p.m. in the U of W’s Manitoba Hall, room 2M70. Those attending are asked to RSVP by calling (204) 988-7105, or e-mail at global.college@uwinnipeg.ca.
