The Winnipeg Goldeyes made a handful of player moves on Tuesday prior to the American Association’s opening day roster deadline.
Manager Rick Forney released infielder Amos Ramon and rookie right-handed pitcher David Hatt.
Right-handed pitcher Christian Garcia has been placed on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting his release, while starting pitchers Matt Jackson and Nick Hernandez have been placed on the inactive list. They will be activated for their first starts of the season on May 18 and 19, respectively.
At the same time, the Goldeyes signed right-handed pitcher Chase Johnson has been signed for the 2014 season.
Johnson, 26, posted 13 saves with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks last season before being traded to the Grand Prairie AirHogs. Between the two stops, he went 1-1 with a 3.64 ERA and 13 saves.
Winnipeg begins the season on the road against the Amarillo Sox on Thursday before opening the home portion of their schedule May 26 against the Sioux City Explorers.
