Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad (HANDOUT)
The Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad is exactly one week away, where an estimated 1,200 motorcycles will rev their engines in an effort to fight prostate cancer.
The annual fundraiser is May 24 and will depart from Earl’s at Polo Park Shopping Centre at 10 a.m.
“Informing men and their families of the need for early detection of prostate cancer is one of the pillars of the Ride for Dad,” said Ed Johner, event spokesperson and prostate cancer survivor. “The level of awareness is growing and this year’s campaign is very gratifying. All proceeds stay in Manitoba for prostate cancer research and education.”
The first leg of the event travels from Polo Park to Assiniboia Downs. The ride then heads north to Gimli and back, culminating with a huge wind-up and awards reception at Stereo Nightclub, Canad Inns Windsor Park, at 3:30 p.m.
In its sixth year, the Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad has raised over $600,000 for prostate cancer research and education. This year’s goal is to raise $200,000. There are 29 Canadian Ride for Dad events pledging donations toward the cause.
