Two Canoeists Rescued from Lake Winnipeg After Ice Moves In

May 19, 2014 1:12 PM | News

RCMP Crest LogoTwo canoeists were rescued from Lake Winnipeg on Sunday after ice blocked their access to the shore.

Two men, aged 19 and 22, set out at around 12:30 p.m. in Grindstone Provincial Park. Windy conditions forced ice to move in and the pair weren’t able to safely make it back, according to RCMP.

The Canadian Coast Guard was able to maneuver through the ice and rescue the men after receiving a report they had not returned. No injuries were sustained.
