A 42-year-old man has been charged after the United Church in Starbuck was destroyed by fire on Friday.
RCMP say the man was burning leaves and other yard debris in a barrel close to the church. The fire then spread to the church after getting out of control. Under the Wildfires Act, the man has been handed a $1,297.30 fine.
The 110-year-old building was fully engulfed when emergency crews arrived on scene.
Damage estimates are pegged at $650,000.
