WINNIPEG — Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, received a lesson in personal banking on Wednesday while visiting an Assiniboine Credit Union branch.

Her Royal Highness toured the McGregor Street location in the city’s north end to learn about the credit union’s unique business model. Programs offered by ACU also help low income families and organizations that support them in the community.

“We chose this branch over our 21 other Winnipeg branches because it really is a shining example of our commitment to serving the underserved and having social impact,” said ACU board chair Margaret Day. “It’s our understanding that credit unions in the UK are quite different and Her Royal Highness has expressed a keen interest in how we operate in Canada — particularly at ACU where we also have a social mandate. Apparently we were recommended to her by someone in Ottawa. This is a real honour for us.”

The 30-minute visit ended with a presentation from pre-school children from the SPLASH Child Enrichment Centre across the street from ACU.
