If you had hoped to see Scott Fielding in the race to be Winnipeg’s next mayor, you’ll have to back another candidate.

The councillor for St. James — Brooklands says he will not be running for replace Sam Katz, nor will he seek re-election on city council.

Political watchers had pegged Fielding as a potential mayoral candidate in recent months for being outspoken on a number of issues, including rapid transit and fixing the city’s crumbling infrastructure.

“This was an extremely tough decision and I am honoured by the support and encouragement I received by Winnipeggers, but at this point in my life I have decided to pursue other opportunities which I will announce in the coming weeks,” Fielding said in a statement.

Fielding has served on council for eight years and will finish his current term while continuing to service his constituency.
