The inaugural Great Manitoba Portage raised funds for the Manitoba Camping Association’s (MCA) Sunshine Fund over the weekend.
Before the downpour on Saturday afternoon, several registered teams took part in three-legged races and wilderness first aid challenges to “portage” canoes along the Esplanade Riel Bridge.
“Every child deserves to go to camp and the Sunshine Fund makes this happen,” said Liz Kovach, executive director for the MCA. “We hope that the Great Manitoba Portage will help us increase our public profile and donor support so that we can make 1,000 kids to camp our minimum impact on an annual basis.”
Staff from the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and YMCA registered teams to participate, among others.
Funds raised from this event will help send 1,000 children to camp this summer.
