Bongo Love (HANDOUT)

Zimbabwe band Bongo Love and their African acoustics will fill the West End Cultural Centre this summer.

The band will be in Winnipeg on August 7 for a performance that promises to combine contemporary and traditional African music.

Bongo Love, from Zimbabwe, have been playing together since 2001. “Afrocoustics,” as they call their genre, is a fusion of afrobeat, guitar and traditional African acoustic instruments including the mbira (thumb piano from Zimbabwe), the marimba (Mozambique) the djembe/bongo (West Africa) and the congas.

Tickets are on sale now and are $20 at the door, or $15 in advance through the WECC, Ticketmaster, Music Trader, and Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store. A special ticket price of $10 is available for those who have a 2014 Folklorama pass.
