St. Norbert Councillor Justin Swandel is getting out of municipal politics.
Swandel, first elected to Winnipeg’s city council in 2005, will not seek re-election in this fall’s election.
“At this point in my life I would like to explore opportunities in real estate and development work. Over the past few years I have become a certified realtor and look forward to the new challenges of that career,” Swandel said in a statement.
Swandel is currently the deputy mayor and chairs the city’s standing policy committee on infrastructure renewal and public works. He has also been a member of the mayor’s executive policy committee.
“It has truly been both the most rewarding and challenging experience I have had. Every citizen should have the opportunity to realize the amazing life experience that public office represents.”
Also not running again are Couns. Scott Fielding, Dan Vandal and Paula Havixbeck. Vandal is running for the federal Liberals in St. Boniface, while Havixbeck is a current mayoral candidate.
