Judy Wasylycia-Leis wants to freeze the municipal business tax if elected mayor.

The Winnipeg candidate told reporters on Wednesday that she would freeze the 5.7 percent rate for the next four years.

Wasylycia-Leis made the announcement at Chocolatier Constance Popp in St. Boniface alongside owner Constance Menzies.

The former NDP MP also pledged to create a new business liaison meant to speed up license and permit renewals, while saying she would also maintain existing business-tax exemptions for small operators.

Voters head to the polls October 22.
