The Assiniboine Park Zoo will close for 10 days after this weekend to prepare for the grand opening of the long-awaited Journey to Churchill exhibit.

Starting on Monday, June 23, the zoo will make final preparations for the opening of the exhibit set for July 3 at noon.

“Journey to Churchill is the signature exhibit in the redevelopment of Assiniboine Park Zoo and we want the zoo looking its absolute best,” said Don Peterkin, APC’s chief operations officer of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “The closure will give our animals time to acclimatize to their new surroundings and allow us to complete all the final construction details and finishing touches.”

Special activities and entertainment are being planned for the opening weekend.

Following the opening weekend of the exhibit, the zoo will operate during its normal summer hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
