Tourism Winnipeg has launched a new contest to get people snapping photos of the city.

Capture Your Winnipeg will kick off today at 10 a.m. when eight local mascots invade the James Richardson International Airport to celebrate Tourism Week.

“Winnipeg is a very photogenic city. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, gathering photos to enter our Capture Your Winnipeg photo contest is a perfect way to discover the city,” said Chantal Sturk-Nadeau, senior vice-president of Tourism Winnipeg.

Mascots will include the Folklorama Llama, Buzz and Boomer of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Parka the beaver from Parks Canada, Goldie from the Winnipeg Goldeyes, the Winnipeg Jets’ Mick E. Moose, Festival du Voyageur’s Leo, Toba from Travel Manitoba, and Charlie Horse Jr. from Assiniboia Downs. The mascots will be hanging around until noon.

People who encounter the furry characters are encouraged to snap a photo or selfie and tag it with #onlyinthepeg and #winnipeg on social media. The contest runs until September 30 and is open to everyone. The grand prize includes a deluxe bed and breakfast package at Inn at the Forks, Winnipeg Jets tickets and a $200 gift card for Don’s Photo.
