WINNIPEG — A helicopter has been installed in the soon-to-open Journey to Churchill exhibit.
The Assiniboine Park Zoo says a Bell 206B helicopter in the Churchill townsite section of the 10-acre exhibit was donated by Custom Helicopters.
Helicopters are used in the north to transport people to remote camps, survey areas and wildlife, and relocate polar bears. This section of the exhibit is designed to resemble the town of Churchill.
Visitors will also see an inuksuk, a CN boxcar and tracks, and replicas of Churchill’s famous welcome sign and weather station.
The donated helicopter was hoisted in by crane over a landscaped berm due to limited access to the exhibit.
Journey to Churchill opens July 3.
