What to Do on Canada Day in Winnipeg

Assiniboine Park

Assiniboine Park will host a series of live entertainment for Canad Day Picnic in the Park. Bands begin playing on the Lyric Stage at 1 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. where fireworks will cap off the evening. Entertainment includes headliners The Trews at 9:10 p.m. A citizenship ceremony will also welcome new Canadians to the country.

Osborne Village

The traditional party in Osborne Village will close the street down to traffic, as Canada Day revellers take in the annual street festival. The festivities begin today at 6 p.m. (yes, Monday) and continue until 11 p.m. On Canada Day, the fun will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with extended patios, music stages, food, and artisan vendors. New this year is the relocation of the Family Zone south to Gertrude and Osborne, featuring more inflatable bouncers, obstacle courses, child entertainers and pony rides.

Living Flag

The Canada Day Living Flag has moved from Broadway to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. People can begin showing up at 9 a.m. to get their free T-shirt and a place in the outline to create the maple leaf. Also nearby, the CMHR will be running public outdoor tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St. Norbert

The St. Norbert Farmers’ Market will be in full swing on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Before then, those in the south end of the city can take in musical acts, a BBQ and family-friendly activities beginning at noon at the St. Norbert Community Centre. The day will end with fireworks at dusk.

Transcona

Transcona Centennial Square will be the hub of Canada Day fun from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Celebrations include community choirs, music and dance, refreshments, children’s activities. Headliners the Danny Kramer Band will perform from 5-8 p.m.
