A Winnipeg restaurateur and entrepreneur is vying to become the next city councillor in St. Norbert.
Sachit Mehra filed his papers at City Hall on Monday, seeking to replace outgoing Coun. Justin Swandel in this fall’s civic election.
The Winnipeg-born father of two is a community supporter and currently serves as chair of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.
Mehra launched the Masala Mixer fundraiser, which has generated more than $50,000 for the Victoria General Hospital over the past seven years.
“Many people approached me, whether at my family’s restaurant or on the sidelines of my son’s football games, telling me that they wanted to see real change at City Hall and ultimately, they encouraged me to put my name forward,” Mehra said.
Mehra has two sons, Mohit and Givan, and resides in the city with his wife Caroline of 16 years.
