A Winnipeg lawyer and community philanthropist is vying for the council seat in the Charleswood — Tuxedo ward.

Marty Morantz is a former partner at Levene Tadman LLP in Winnipeg and a veteran businessman with holdings primarily in multi-unit apartment buildings.

Morantz says his priorities would be advocating for the extension of the William R. Clement Parkway and twinning of Wilkes Avenue to help accommodate continued growth in both the Kenaston retail area and the approved Ridgewood South subdivision in Charleswood.

“Building a stronger Winnipeg takes experience and a serious commitment to our community,” said Morantz. “With all the issues we are currently facing, I want voters in Charleswood-Tuxedo to know that I am a constructive problem solver who will work tirelessly to help get this city back on the right track.”

He says he would also improve fiscal responsibility by negotiating a better funding agreement with the Manitoba government to ensure tax increases are a last resort.

Morantz last ran for office as a PC candidate during the 2011 provincial election.

Voters go to the polls on October 22.
