Eight Winnipeg community centres have been awarded renovation grants totalling $375,834 by the city.
Some of the approved projects include renovations such as security system and lighting upgrades, as well as flooring and gym upgrades.
The community centres receiving grants are Chalmers, Oxford Heights, Heritage Victoria, Melrose Park, Norquay, Robert A. Steen, St. Norbert and Tuxedo. Garden City Community Centre will receive $50,000 from the grant fund as previously approved by city council.
“We want community centres to be able to focus on the programming, and not on how they are going to repair or upgrade the amenities,” said Mayor Sam Katz.
