A woman has died and a man is presumed drowned after an ATV accident in western Manitoba.
RCMP say the incident happened Saturday at around 8:30 p.m. at the Rivers Reservoir spillway, approximately 29 km northwest of Brandon.
A 58-year-old Rivers woman was attempting to drive down an embankment by the spillway when she lost control of the ATV, striking a 39-year-old man from Brandon. He was fishing at the time and was pushed into water, which swept him away in the strong current.
The woman was killed in the crash and search efforts haven’t recovered the man. He is presumed drowned.
Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor, according to police. It’s believed the driver of the ATV was wearing a helmet at the time.
The names of the deceased aren’t being released.
