Winnipeg Cabbie Sought After Serious Sexual Assault

Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police are looking for a taxicab driver after a woman was seriously sexually assaulted on Sunday morning.

Police say the assault took place after the victim left a nightclub on Elizabeth Road in the Windsor Park area. The woman had been out drinking with friends when she tripped on the sidewalk once leaving the club. The taxicab driver assisted the victim and placed her into his cab.

Police say the driver began kissing the woman when she requested to be driven to a specific location. The driver is said to have taken her to the area of Day Street near Thom Avenue East, when a serious sexual assault occurred. The victim was injured as a result.

The cabbie then drove the woman to a residence in the area and police were called.

The suspect is described as East Indian in appearance, in his 20s, between 5’6″-5’7″ tall with a thin build, tall or high hair, and an average build. He may also have a fresh scratch caused by the victim during the assault. He was wearing jeans and a T-shirt while operating a silver Toyota Prius.
