Winnipeg Man Arrested on Human Trafficking Charges

Winnipeg Police CrestA Winnipeg man is under arrest after police say he intimidated a woman into becoming a prostitute.

Police said he met the woman in 2012 and due to her dire financial straits, was able to convince her to start working as an escort. Police said over the next year and a half he controlled the woman through intimidation, threats and violence and forced her to work in the sex trade in Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The man was arrested on Tuesday.

Jared Matthew Schaffer, 29, faces numerous charges including assault, trafficking and living on the avails of prostitution.
