Aboriginal Music Week Reveals Full Festival Lineup

Aboriginal Music WeekThe full entertainment lineup for Aboriginal Music Week 2014 has been unveiled, setting the scene for the sixth annual musical celebration August 20-24.

The festival will include three big community celebrations, six workshops for youth, a lunch hour showcase, two big concerts at the Cube stage in Winnipeg’s Old Market Square, and two nightclub concerts. Also on the schedule is a film event, a series of music management consultations, and two of the only networking events for the Aboriginal music community in Canada.

“We have a lot of momentum this year and we’re expecting at least 10,000 people to attend the festival,” said Aboriginal Music Manitoba chairman Alan Greyeyes. “I’m really excited about the lineup because there are a number of great artists who will be making their Winnipeg debuts with us.”

Apache violinist Laura Ortman, music producer Astronomar, hip hop duo Mob Bounce, and guitar slinger Logan Staats, who will all be performing in Winnipeg for the very first time. Tall Paul will emcee the event.

JUNO Award winners George Leach and Leela Gilday, Colombian music maverick Lido Pimienta, Stó:l? pop singer Inez Jasper, and music creator DJ Javier Estrada are also on the entertainment roster, along with a handful of others.

Festival passes are $40 and provide access to both ticketed concerts along with the opening night reception on August 20. Festival passes can be purchased online at AboriginalMusicWeek.ca.
