Man Drowns at St. Malo Provincial Park

A 19-year-old man swimming at St. Malo Provincial Park drowned on Saturday.

RCMP were dispatched to the area at around 4:15 p.m. and say the man had become under distress while in the water.

The man from the RM of Morris was taken to hospital in Steinbach where he was pronounced deceased.

The victim’s name isn’t being released and police continue to investigate.

St. Malo is about one hour south of Winnipeg just off Highway 59.

UPDATE: Friends have identified the man as Calvin Dueck. The 19-year-old was a prospect MJHL’s Winkler Flyers and the son of Mervin Dueck, a councillor in the RM of Morris.
