A new community space in Fort Rouge will provide recreational access for family-orientated programming.

The Mayfair Recreation Centre was opened Wednesday, giving those in the area a state-of-the-city place to go.

“This facility supports volunteers and community leaders who work to give families a sense of belonging in their neighbourhoods and provides young people opportunities to discover and grow their talents,” said Children and Youth Opportunities Minister Kevin Chief. “By working together on projects like these, we are building a city where the future is bright.”

The new 3,600-square-foot facility includes a community kitchen, multi-purpose/skate change area, multi-purpose activity space, basketball nets and storage for Winnipeg Harvest

The city and province cost-shared the $1.5 million project, with the city contributing an additional $800,000 from its capital fund.
