August 18, 2014 11:14 AM | News

Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police are investigating after two bodies were pulled from the Red River over the weekend.

A vacationing Alberta man and his son discovered the first body near banks of the river on Sunday afternoon in the area of the Alexander Docks. Police divers recovered the body of a woman in a bag and have launched a homicide investigation.

An autopsy is pending and the woman’s identity isn’t known.

A second body was pulled from the Red River near Kildonan Park at around 7:30 p.m. Police say the body is that of a man, but couldn’t confirm whether it’s the same individual who went missing Friday after a failed river rescue attempt near the Provencher Bridge.

An autopsy in the second case is also pending and police continue to investigate.
