Stony Mountain Inmate Found Dead in Cell

Correctional Service Canada is investigating after an inmate died at Stony Mountain Institution just north of Winnipeg.

Duane Edward Taylor, 53, was found unresponsive in his cell on Saturday.

Staff performed CPR and emergency services were called, but the inmate couldn’t be resuscitated. The death is being treated as a homicide.

At the time of his death, Taylor had been serving an indeterminate sentence for first-degree murder since September 8, 1982.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

UPDATE: Tuesday, August 19Cordell Charles, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder. He made his first court appearance in Winnipeg on Tuesday.
