Bison Football Readies for Training Camp

August 20, 2014 8:46 AM | Sports

The feeling that summer is nearly over has become evident with the Manitoba Bisons preparing to open training camp on Friday.

The Herd returns for the 2014 season with a veteran group, as 10 of the 12 starters on offence and eight of the 12 starters on defence played in the 2013 Canada West Final.

“There has been pressure on the defence, because offence did kind of rip it up last year,” said Bisons head coach Brian Dobie. “I expect pretty good things from our defence… I think our front four is going to be really good.”

The Bisons lose veterans Anthony Coombs and Thomas Miles, but have fourth-year slotback Nic Demski to look to in more of a leadership role.

“I haven’t trained this hard for a season I don’t think ever in my life,” Demski said. “I’m expecting big things out of myself just because of the offseason this year.”

The Bisons begin training with two-a-day sessions from August 23-29 at Investors Group Field. There isn’t a pre-season game this year, but the Bisons will play a scrimmage on Friday, August 29.

Bisons 2014 home football schedule:

Friday, September 12 vs. University of Regina Rams (7 p.m.)
Saturday, September 20 vs. UBC Thunderbirds (2 p.m.)
Friday, October 17 vs. U of S Huskies (7 p.m.)
Saturday, November 1 vs. University of Calgary Dinos (2 p.m.)
