MS Society of CanadaHigh winds and thunderstorms have cancelled the second day of the 25th anniversary Biking to the Viking MS Bike Tour.

Riders were to leave from Gimli today and head back to Stonewall, where they departed from on Saturday as part of the fundraising event.

“The safety of our cyclists are our top priority,” said Donna Boyd, MS Society president. “After consulting with route marshalls, our expert cyclists with our bike shops, and finally the RCMP, we have determined that the road is not safe for cyclists and that we cannot ensure their safety given the weather conditions.”

Cyclists, luggage and bikes are being shuttled to Stonewall where the finish line festivities will proceed as planned. Family and friends scheduled to pick up cyclists are encouraged to contact them or plan to come to the Stonewall Veterans Memorial Centre this morning.
