Gord Steeves continued with his contrast comparisons between himself and opponent Judy Wasylycia-Leis on Thursday.
The Winnipeg mayoral candidate said if the second phase of bus rapid transit is completed under a Wasylycia-Leis administration, citizens will see their property taxes raised more than 12 percent.
“I do not believe Judy Wasylycia-Leis has fully considered the negative impact Phase 2 of bus rapid transit will have,” Steeves said. “There will be unaccounted costs associated with this project which prevents this plan from being viable.”
Steeves said her one-time five percent property tax hike would be a burden to Winnipeggers for the next 30 years, in addition to the 12 percent hike.
Steeves said he was supportive of the first phase of BRT, which takes riders as far south as Jubilee Avenue, but says the second phase needs to be halted.
