Canadian painter Shelley Vanderbyl has joined Winnipeg’s Gurevich Fine Art and will be featured in an element of the gallery’s newest exhibit.

“A Celebration of Women’s Art” opens Friday and will include Vanderbyl’s miniature oil series, Memory Tales.

“Society has built for itself a sterile and efficient system that seems to celebrate productivity where there could be potential for great joy and meaningful connection,” Vanderbyl said. “We often find ourselves in soulless places, starved for something life-giving. This is my life’s work, to heal and to inspire.”

Vanderbyl’s core intention is to heal and nurture through her work. Using precise layering techniques her pieces create soft, atmospheric spaces.

A Celebration of Women’s Art will run September 5-27 and features the work of 22 women artists in association with Mentoring Art’s for Women’s Art (MAWA) and Video Pool Media Arts Center.
