Winnipeg mayoral candidate Robert-Falcon Ouellette has launched a crowdfunding campaign for his run to become mayor.
The Indiegogo campaign has a goal of $20,000 by October 11.
“I’ve been open about donors from day one, because candidates have lot of work to do to rebuild trust in City Hall,” said Ouellette. “Our message to supporters is ‘You aren’t just helping the campaign: you are the campaign.’”
For each level of contribution, donors can receive a button, T-shirt or yard sign.
“Signs, buttons, shirts, posters — you name it — they all cost money,” said Ouellette. “We will still have free buttons and yard signs, but fundraising helps us pay for it.”
Under new campaign finance laws, donations over $25 are also eligible for a rebate of up to 75%.
