A North Dakota man who attempted to sneak into Canada while hiding under a blanket has been sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Joseph Dwayne Fox, 33, pleaded guilty in a Winnipeg courtroom on September 12 to wilfully attempting to evade compliance of the Customs Act.
The Canada Border Services Agency said Fox had tried to enter Canada on September 9 but was denied due to his criminal record. A day later he tried again, but hid under a blanket in the rear of a vehicle at the Lena border crossing in southwest Manitoba.
Charges were laid due to Fox failing to present himself to a border officer upon arrival to the country.
The CBSA says failing to report to an officer while entering Canada may lead to criminal prosecution.
