Two more honours were bestowed upon the gold medal-winning Jennifer Jones curling rink on Thursday.
The ladies from the St. Vital Curling Club gathered for the official unveiling of their mural on the south wall of the club facing Fermor Avenue. With the support of Take Pride Winnipeg and other organizations, the mural was painted this summer by local muralists Mandy van Leeuwen and Michel Saint Hilaire.
“You’re a little scared when your face is going to be about a storey high,” Jones said of the mural.
St. Vital Curling Club president Mat Jaques said the mural captures the true team beauty, camaraderie, and spirit that exists between the girls.
The City of Winnipeg also renamed Regal Avenue at St. Anne’s Road to Honourary Team Jones Way in recognition of the team’s outstanding performance in Sochi this past winter.
“Team Jones Way is truly special for us and something I know every one of us will remember for the rest of our lives. Who gets a street named after them? We do. It’s crazy,” Jones added.
