Two Injured in Semi Crash on West Perimeter

September 20, 2014 2:28 PM | News

RCMP Crest LogoA two-vehicle crash Friday evening on the Perimeter Highway just north of Portage Avenue sent two people to hospital and injured two dogs.

RCMP say a Peterbilt semi truck was travelling northbound on the Perimeter when it hydroplaned and rolled two or three times before landing in the eastbound ditch.

The semi hit a 2003 Audi A4 from Balmoral, Manitoba in the process, but the driver wasn’t injured.

The two people in the semi — a 49-year-old man from Ile des Chenes and his 22-year-old male passenger from Gimli –were taken to the Health Sciences Centre. The driver was listed in critical condition and underwent surgery. The passenger was in stable condition. Two dogs in the semi received minor injuries and were taken care of by emergency animal services.

Police say all involved are expected to survive.

Road conditions were poor at the time of the crash, with heavy amounts of rain on the roadway.
