The United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg have thrown their support behind mayoral candidate Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

The firefighters’ union backed the former NDP MP on Monday during a joint news conference at the Fire Fighters Museum on Maple Street.

In 2010, the UFFW endorsed Mayor Sam Katz — the main opponent of Wasylycia-Leis during her unsuccessful bid for mayor four years ago.

“We feel Judy is the right person at the right time,” said UFFW president Alex Forrest, noting her provincial and federal political experience.

Other mayoral candidates include Brian Bowman, Gord Steeves, David Sanders, Paula Havixbeck, Robert-Falcon Ouellette and Michel Fillion.

Winnipeggers go to the polls on October 22.
