Woman’s Death is Winnipeg’s 19th Homicide

Winnipeg Police CrestA man is facing second-degree murder charges after an assault on his common-law wife turned deadly.

Winnipeg police say the 25-year-old became involved in an argument with the woman last Sunday at a home in the 500 block of Burnell Street.

The 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital after being injured in the upper body while visiting family with her two children.

She was listed in critical condition and died from her injuries on Tuesday.

Erin John Spence, 25, of Winnipeg was originally charged with aggravated assault, but charges were upgraded to second-degree murder once the woman died.

She has been identified as Jenna Marsden of Winnipeg and is the city’s 19th homicide of the year.

Spence remains in police custody as members of the homicide unit continue to investigate.
