The St. Andrews Lock and Dam north of Winnipeg will close for the season at midnight on October 18.

Navigation through the lock will cease to all marine vessels and will reopen in the spring.

Staff will begin raising the dam’s control curtains water levels in the Red and Assiniboine rivers, in the vicinity of Winnipeg and north to Lockport, will be lowered gradually over the next two to three weeks.

The federal government says should winter conditions set in, the curtains will be completely lifted as required.

Anyone who owns a vessel, barge or property along the rivers and their tributaries are advised to protect their property.
