WINNIPEG — Four alternate captains will be listed on the roster this season for the University of Manitoba Bisons.
The men’s hockey squad has a young group on the ice to begin their first set of games at home since playing Calgary last weekend to open up the regular schedule.
Forwards Jesse Paradis and Jordan DePape along with defencemen Luke Paulsen and Brock Sutherland will be the alternate captains for Manitoba this season.
“These student-athletes are outstanding performers on the ice and in the classroom and will provide valuable leadership to a young Bison team,” head coach Mike Sirant said.
The Bisons host the Regina Cougars in their home opener at Wayne Fleming Arena on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.)
On the women’s side of the game, the Bisons have selected forward Maggie Litchfield-Medd as team captain, while defenceman Michelle Pawluk dons the ‘A’ for the first time, with defenceman Lindsay Blight and forward Kayleigh Wiens named as rotating alternate captains.
“Both Maggie and Michelle are fifth year players who bring leadership and experience to a young team. Both have led on and off the ice throughout the years and bring attitude, work ethic and compliment each other,” said women’s head coach Jon Rempel.
The women face the Regina Cougars on the road to begin their 2014-15 Canada West regular season on Friday and Saturday.
