MTSWINNIPEG — MTS has invested in a multimillion dollar monitoring and management facility to oversee its network infrastructure in the province.

The Manitoba Network Operations Centre (MNOC) is located in the telco’s downtown Winnipeg headquarters and is equipped with the latest software-based operational support systems to provide 24/7 monitoring.

More than 50 people are staffed in the centre, including skilled technicians, managers and support personnel.

“MTS is the only communications provider with a local network operations centre right here in Manitoba,” said MTS president Kelvin Shepherd. “Our technicians understand our province and our customers’ needs better because they live and work here, and customers can enjoy the peace of mind that comes from having dedicated, local teams proactively managing the networks that support their critical communications services.”

Some of the infrastructure the MNOC provides monitoring and surveillance for include more than 200 cellular sites, 1,000 broadband cabinets, 1,000 IP data circuits, 10,000 km of fibre networks, and 10,000 IP routers, servers and firewalls.
