Passenger traffic was up 7.4 percent at Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport in the third quarter.
Revenue was $26.9 million, compared to $24.4 million for the same period in 2013. Earnings before interest, depreciation and taxes were $13 million, compared to $12.6 million for the same period in 2013.
“There were a number of important factors coming into play this past quarter, and prime among them was the addition of WestJet Encore into our market,” said Barry Rempel, president and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “That, combined with increased capacity on Air Canada and Delta, provided opportunity for the strong year over year passenger growth in Winnipeg.”
Beginning November 1, WestJet will offer weekly service between Winnipeg and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Sunwing will also begin new weekly service between Winnipeg and Ixtapa, Mexico starting on December 11.
